List of Deputy Chief Minister

1. Pabitra Mohan Pradhan (1967–1971)

The first Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, Pabitra Mohan Pradhan served under CM Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo. Representing Pallahara, his tenure reflected the era of coalition politics. He helped in maintaining stability and supported developmental work in rural Odisha.

2. Nilamani Routray (1972–1973)

Nilamani Routray, from Basudevpur, served under CM Nandini Satpathy. As a leader of the Utkal Congress, his role was crucial in balancing political alliances. He later became Chief Minister himself, leaving an important mark on Odisha’s political history.

3. Hemananda Biswal (1995–1998)

Hemananda Biswal, elected from Laikera, was the first tribal Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha. Serving under Janaki Ballabh Patnaik, he worked to promote tribal welfare, rural development, and irrigation. Later, he also became CM of Odisha.

4. Basant Kumar Biswal (1999)

Basant Kumar Biswal from Tirtol briefly served as Deputy CM under CM Janaki Ballabh Patnaik. His tenure was short, but he played a key role in the Congress party’s final phase in Odisha before the rise of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

5. Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo (2024–Present)

Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, representing Patnagarh, became Deputy CM in June 2024 under CM Mohan Charan Majhi. A senior BJP leader with long experience in state politics, he is responsible for strengthening governance and regional representation in western Odisha.

6. Pravati Parida (2024–Present)

Pravati Parida made history as the first female Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha. Representing Nimapara, she was appointed alongside Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo in 2024. She has been entrusted with Women and Child Development, Mission Shakti, and Tourism, focusing on welfare and empowerment initiatives.
