Veda Vyasa Jayanti: A Celebration of our Scriptures and Traditional Roots

Samskrta Nivaha, Department of Sanskrit celebrated Veda Vyasa Jayanti on 1st July. The HoD of Sanskrit, Dr Suneel organised the event specifically to remind the audience of hermitages of ancient times. The event was kept traditional, laced with the colours of Indian values. Participating students were decked out in traditional attire to commemorate the special day.

The celebrations started with traditional vedaghosha, followed by singing and dance performances by the talented students of different streams. Principal, Dr SN Nataraj and Vice Principal, Sri Vijayeendra and the Humanities coordinator, Sri Jagadish acted as the chief guests for the event. Dr Suneel took the stage to speak about the relevance of Sage Vyasa and his crucial contribution to the universe in compiling Vedas and puranas.

14 Students rendered their Vangmaya seva (offerings to Sage Vyasa in the form of recitation, speech and songs) which mesmerized the audience. The coordinator of departmental activities, Mr Hemant extended a vote of thanks at the end to the volunteers of the Nivaha since they were the real masters of the ceremony. Overall, the program was a success in being a traditional carnival with rich cultural values.
