List of Madhya Pradesh Chief Ministers

1. Ravishankar Shukla (1956)

First CM of reorganized Madhya Pradesh (earlier Madhya Bharat, Vindhya Pradesh, Bhopal merged).
His sudden death in 1956 ended his short tenure.

2. Dwarka Prasad Mishra (1967–1969)

Known as an intellectual politician.
Promoted education reforms in the state.

3. Shyama Charan Shukla (1969–1992, three terms)

Prominent Congress leader.
Oversaw industrial expansion in Raipur and Chhattisgarh region.

4. Prakash Chandra Sethi (1972–1977)

Strengthened Indore as a commercial hub.
Later became Union Minister of Defence.

5. Kailash Joshi (1977–1978)

First non-Congress CM of MP (Janata Party).
Known as “Saaf Suthre Neta” (clean politician).

6. Arjun Singh (1980s)

His tenure was marked by Bhopal Gas Tragedy (1984).

7. Digvijaya Singh (1993–2003)

First woman CM of MP.
