The 10th Board exam preparation requires a proper strategy, tailored to each subject to maximise performance. The way you prepare for languages cannot be replicated for social studies, mathematics or science and vice versa. For instance, the best way to prepare for mathematics is to solve as many problems as you can. With science, one has to memorise theories and understand their application to present a formidable response. Through this blog, we will discuss effective subject-wise preparation strategies to help you excel in your exams.

Mathematics

  1. Master the Basics: Strengthen your foundational concepts, as they form the backbone of advanced problems.
  2. Formulas & Theorems: Maintain a formula notebook and revise it regularly. There is no alternative to memorising theorems and formulas as you will be required to state them in your answer.
  3. Practice Daily: Solve at least five different problems every day, covering various topics. With mathematics, there will be a cross-application of different theorems in a problem. So, it is important to solve complex and simple problems equally.
  4. Previous Year Papers: Solve past years' board papers to familiarise yourself with question patterns.
  5. Focus on the steps: It is very important to show the steps in the solutions. So, focus on the steps to show how you arrived at the answer.
  6. Time Management: Set a timer while solving questions to improve speed and accuracy.

Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)

Physics:

  • Focus on understanding concepts even as you memorise the theorems
  • Solve numerical problems regularly to build confidence
  • Revise derivations and key formulas frequently

Chemistry:

  • Memorise chemical equations, formulas, and periodic table trends
  • Focus on reactions and mechanisms to understand practical applications
  • Solve multiple-choice and conceptual questions to improve recall

Biology:

  • Practice making diagrams and labelling them regularly
  • Use flashcards to memorise scientific terms and processes
  • Focus on key definitions and short notes for last-minute revision

English

  1. Grammar & Writing: Practice grammar exercises and different writing formats like essays, letters, and reports. Focus on learning the grammar rules for figures of speech, tenses, voices etc.
  2. Literature: Read and summarise each chapter to understand key themes and character developments. Memorise the names of the authors and poets and important quotes and passages.
  3. Comprehension Skills: Solve sample comprehension passages to improve reading speed and accuracy.
  4. Vocabulary: Learn new words daily and use them in writing practice.

Social Science (History, Geography, Political Science, Economics)

  1. History: Create timelines to remember important dates, events and names.
  2. Geography: Practice map work and learn key geographical terms and concepts.
  3. Political Science: Understand fundamental concepts and relate them to real-world situations.
  4. Economics: Focus on key terms, graphs, and real-life applications of economic principles.
  5. Revision Through Flashcards: Create small summary cards for quick review before exams.

Languages (Hindi, Sanskrit, or Other Regional Languages)

  1. Grammar and Composition: Practice grammar exercises and essay writing frequently.
  2. Reading and Understanding: Read passages carefully and answer questions concisely.
  3. Literature Preparation: Summarise each chapter and focus on key themes and literary devices.
  4. Memorisation Tips: Use mnemonic devices or storytelling methods to remember poems and prose.

General Exam Preparation Tips

  • Create a Study Timetable: Allocate specific time for each subject to ensure balanced preparation. Even if you don’t study all the subjects daily and choose to focus on one or two subjects each day –

    • Try to study each subject at least thrice in a week

    • Practice mathematics every day. It is important to solve as many problems as possible, and different types of problem every day.

  • Take Breaks: Follow the Pomodoro technique (25-minute study sessions with short breaks) to enhance focus.
  • Stay Healthy: Eat nutritious food, stay hydrated, and get enough sleep to keep your mind active. Take at least one hour out of your schedule to play a sport, learn music, or read non-academic books to unwind and distract yourself completely.
  • Practice Mock Tests: take as many mock tests as you can. Try to simulate exam timing and conditions to attempt the paper within 3 hours.
  • Stay Positive: Believe in yourself, stay motivated, and avoid last-minute cramming. Don’t get distracted by the preparation being done by your peers or compare yourself with them. Furthermore, focus on your strengths, identify your weaknesses and maintain a single-minded focus on your goal.

Conclusion

The aura around the board exam can get intimidating, however, it is only the first step towards one’s academic and career goals. Don’t lose sight of your long-term aspirations as they will motivate you to work harder. By following these subject-wise preparation strategies, you can approach your board exams with confidence and achieve great results. Good luck!
