Education for Better Nation

11 JanThe Power of Education for Better Nation

Category : Nation

The term ‘Sustainability’ has become a globalized element that every nation is striving hard to make it. As per 2030 Development Agenda, sustainability is considered the need of the hour for which the entire universe is striving. The necessity has come for every individual to be aware of global responsibilities and march towards achieving it. In the words of H. H. the Dalai Lama, “Today, more than ever before, life must be characterized by a sense of universal responsibility, not only nation to nation and human to human, but also human to other forms of life.” To lead a sustainable life with a sense of global responsibility, one has to understand and embrace the world as it is.

Three aspects of Responsible Global Citizenship

With the abundant resource of nature and all earthy sophistication, it is a boon for the current generation to innovate productive things and hence prove to be responsible by practicing – Awareness, Sensitivity and Action.

Awareness eradicates ignorance to bring in better understanding. Awareness is something that every person should practice by experiencing both the beauty and the pain of nature. Awareness brings in the mutuality of understanding the diverse human race and building up solutions to every problem that comes across.

Sensitivity is an act of involving oneself in the present situation whatever it is. It is necessary to cultivate global sensitivity, which is inclusive of readiness to respond to the large world around. It is necessary to embrace the world with openness and curiosity that has to be sensitized.

Being compassionate to act or respond to the situation happens only when the individual is aware and sensitized to it. The compassionate action grows as awareness and sensitivity grow as well.

The profound scholar, Swami Vivekananda plays a great role in inculcating the aspects of responsible global citizen in the minds of youth.

"The very essence of education is the concentration of mind, not the collecting of facts. We should develop the power of concentration and detachment, and then with a perfect instrument, we can collect facts at will."

The concept, ‘power of concentration’ was remarkable in abroad when people were not aware of it. The ignorance made them to stay away from the noble world. It even applies to the current scenario where the youth are called on to collaborate and unite for a sustainable nation. Education is the ultimate power to teach the aspects of being a responsible citizen to foresee a well-developed nation.
