The Youth Red Cross Unit of Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College, V V Puram organised Anti -Tobacco campaign on
22 August 2012.
Carrying banners and placards on the ill-effects of smoking and tobacco products, about 400 participants marched down the main roads of V V Puram, Minerva circle, KIMS and National College circle with a street play staged at various landmarks emphasising the need to take effective measures against this menace.
“To increase the awareness of people, such campaigns are mandatory. The campaign starts from the daughter or son taking out the cigarette from father’s mouth,” said Dr.Somil Rastogi - State Anti tobacco Consultant. Also present at the occasion was Dr. Kulkarni - Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Dr. Darmappa – Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society and Dr. S N Nataraj, Principal, Jain College, V V Puram.
The anti tobacco campaign highlighted the health risks associated with tobacco and advocated the effective policies to reduce consumption.
